2023 Girls Swimming and Diving Day 1 Recap

The diving preliminaries were the first event held at the Minnesota State High School League’s annual Girls Swimming and Diving State Meet. Swimming and diving finals in both classes will be held at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on Saturday, November 18. Class A finals begin at noon and Class AA will follow at 6 p.m.

Class A Highlights

Alayna Kennedy, a junior from Austin, leads the Class A field at the end of the preliminaries. Kennedy, who placed 13th in 2022, has a score of 307.60. Ninth-grader Bailey Monette of Benilde-St. Margaret’s is currently second at 282.65. Monette placed sixth last year.  

St. Peter senior Laura Klatt (268.35) and Monticello ninth-grader Chloe Schwietering (262.30) follow in third and fourth place, respectively. Kennedy’s teammate, junior Reese Norton, rounds out the Top 5 preliminary finishers. Norton placed 12th in 2022.

Class AA Highlights

Minneapolis Washburn sophomore Madeline Kohel, who did not qualify for the 2022 meet, leads the Class AA competitors after the preliminary diving rounds. Her semifinal score was 372.00. Defending champion Gabby Mauder, a senior from Woodbury, is currently second at 349.45.

Maple Grove sophomore Ellis Landry and Edina junior Zara Karimi are in a tight battle for the third spot. Landry currently stands at 313.80 and Karimi trails at 313.10. Karimi placed fifth in 2022.

Anna Cundiff, a senior from Prior Lake, rounds out the Top 5. She currently stands at 310.75.
