Some important factors in our success this season have been:
Our senior leadership has been fantastic all season. It started right away in the off season and carried over throughout our whole year. We have 18 starters back from a 9-3 team and that experience has been critical to our success. We are pretty balanced with who gets the touches on offense and that gives us a lot of flexibility, we have many guys who have been making a lot of plays. Our first defense has only given up 5 td's all year, our defense is the strength of the team all season.
Significant records, statistics, achievements of this team:
Because our balance and controlling field position with excellent special teams play, we don't have eye catching stats. Like I said above, only giving up 5 td's by our first D is the best stat we have.
Noteworthy data on individual players:
Pat Leary and Jake Groteboer played big roles as 10th graders on our 2016 state championship team. They are both being recruited by to play at the next level and have done a great job as captains for this team. Ben Limburg is on of the best kickers in the state, he broke the school record with a 47 yarder last year and has hit 3 over 40 this year. Also an outstanding punter. This group of seniors also have a lot of 3 sport athletes which is great. This is a strong group of baseball players as well, they went to state as 10th graders also in baseball. Andrew Piene leads us in tackles at mlb and is great emotional leader for us.
Other Interests and Achievements of team personnel:
Our staff has been together for a long time and that helps a lot to have that consistency. We have now made it to state 10 of the last 13 years. I just like how so many guys are making plays this year, everyone is doing a great job of taking care of their assignment. Our program is all about one word, "Together" and this team has come together this fall and that is main reason we are back in the state tournament.
