HOME OF THE TIGERS
Tiger football drops game to St. Mary’s 18-0 The Springfield Tiger varsity football team traveled to Sleepy Eye last Friday night to play Minnesota State Ranked Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s. The undefeated Knights of St. Mary’s beat the Tigers 18-0 before a large crowd. The Tigers fell behind 6-0 after a first play, 60 yard touchdown pass and 12-0 just before halftime. St. Mary’s would score once more for the 18-0 victory. Springfield had some good opportunities that were stopped due to 3 turnovers, a pass interception along with 2 costly fumbles during the intense, defensive battle by both teams throughout the night. With their loss to St. Mary’s, the Tigers are now 5-2 overall on the season with a non-conference matchup against GFW this Wednesday, October 17 at 7 p.m. in Riverside Park. The Section Tournament will begin on Tuesday, October 23 with location and time TBA. Best of luck to Head Coach Paul Dunn and the Tigers against GFW and also in the upcoming Section Tournament.
Tigers 0 St. Mary’s 18 The Tigers traveled to Sleepy Eye for a Southern Minnesota Conference showdown with Minnesota number two ranked St. Mary’s last Friday evening. Springfield fell behind early and was defeated by the Knights 18-0 in a tough, defensive battle. On offense, the Tigers gained 98 yards rushing and had another 63 yards passing on the night. On defense, the Tigers had a tough time with Knights quarterback Jordan Anderson who rushed for 154 yards and passed for another 193 yards for the win. Leading the Tigers on offense against St. Mary’s was Springfield quarterback Jacob Menage with 26 yards rushing and another 63 yards passing. Catching passes from Menage were: Zach Wells with 3 for 30 yards; Cooper Scheffler with 2 for 24 yards and Karson Herfurth had 2 for 9 yards. Teammate Zach Wells also had 51 yards rushing followed by Justin Macht with 17 yards rushing. Zach Mickelson had 3 yards with Buddy Kretsch adding 1 yard on the night. Leading the Tiger defense against the very good St. Mary’s offense was Lance Briard with 15 tackles and quarterback sack. Trever Vanderwerf had 11 tackles with teammates Jacob Menage and Nick Runck getting 10 tackles each. Zach Wells had 8 tackles and a quarterback sack with Cole Milbrath and Dylan Salonek getting tackles apiece. Buddy Kretsch had 6 tackles plus a pass interception with Tim Krueger getting 5 tackles plus a quarterback sack. Cody Graff and Cooper Scheffler had 3 tackles apiece with Carson Herfurth getting 2 tackles. Teammate Justin Macht added 1 tackle on the night. St. Mary’s 6-6-0-6—18 Tigers 0-0-0-0—0
