| In their first-ever state tournament appearance, the Centennial Cougars of Circle Pines shutout the Moorhead Spuds, 1-0, to earn the Class AA State Tournament title. Cougars' junior Mike Montgomery netted the game-winning goal at 4:04 of the second period. Senior goalie Greg Stutz had 153 minutes of shutout hockey in the tournament. By not allowing a single goal in the tournament, Stutz secured a place in the record books for the most shutouts in one tournament. The team also set a record of fewest goals allowed. The Cougars had 29 shots on goal while holding Moorhead to only 15. Centennial's season-ending record was 30-1-0 and Moorhead ended the season with a record of 26-3-0. |
