| In a thriller of a game, the St. Thomas Academy Cadets defeated the Orono Spartans, 3-2, in overtime. Orono senior Zach Erickson netted the first goal early in the first period. His goal was unmatched until Cadet ninth-grader Jordan Schroeder scored late in the third period. Orono regained the lead when St Thomas Academy sophomore goalie Aaron Crandall thought he had the puck covered - until Spartans junior Pat McClure put the open puck into the net. Cadet junior JC Blaisell tied the game with just 38.5 seconds remaining in regulation. The winning goal came off the stick of Cadet sophomore Tony Mergens at 4:06 in overtime. St. Thomas Academy had 31 shots on goal while holding Orono to only 17. With the win, the Cadets advance to the next round – guaranteeing them at least the same finish as last year, fourth, or better. |
