Hermantown senior Karl Gilbert scored three consecutive goals in the third period, the last one being the game winner with just 37.5 seconds remaining on the clock, to defeat Thief River Falls, 4-3. Senior teammate Buddy Hernesman scored the other Hawks goal in the first period. With the win, Hermantown will meet St. Thomas Academy in semifinal action on Friday at Xcel Energy Center.
* A new record was set for the Wednesday evening session with 7,690 people in attendance. The previous record was 6,109, set in 1998.
