Liban Farah (10) of St. Paul Humboldt challenges Samuel Gerten (15) of Dakota United for control of the ball in the PI title game.

In a rematch of the 2018 PI championship game, it was again Dakota United facing St. Paul Humboldt for the title. St. Paul Humboldt won the 2018 championship with 5-4 victory but the tables were turned in 2019, with Dakota United winning by a 5-2 margin.

Dakota United was led by sophomore forward Samuel Gerten, who scored all five of his team’s goals. Donte Willis, a freshman wing, and Liban Farah, a sophomore defender, accounted for the St. Paul Humboldt goals.

Gerten opened the scoring 7 minutes, 22 seconds into the game and by halftime he had Dakota United up 4-1. Gerten tallied his final strike with 12:53 left in regulation.

This was Dakota United’s eighth title overall; their last came in 2017.

The Rochester Raiders went home with the third-place hardware after posting a 3-1 victory over Minneapolis South. Freshman forward Joseph Hansen led Rochester with two goals and junior forward Kirk Peterson added a goal and an assist. Junior wing Edgar Vecete Morales had the only goal for the Tigers.

Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound Westonka made short work of Anoka-Hennepin in the consolation final, winning 11-3. Junior forward Sam Roles scored seven goals and added two assists for Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound-Westonka. Junior wing William Rausch accounted for all three of Anoka-Hennepin’s goals.
