The Minnesota State High School League partners with representatives from the Minnesota chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA-MN), the Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA), and the Minnesota String and Orchestra Teachers Association (MNSOTA) to annually review the League’s approved music lists. These partners advise the League’s Music Advisory Committee about potential additions and deletions to the approved lists. The League’s committee then reviews these recommendations and posts approved updates to the League’s website.
The lists are managed under the following principles:
- Reflect best practices in music education
- Create and support outstanding educational experiences for students
- Inspire exploration of a broad range of repertoire that includes historically underrepresented composers
- Engender high standards for pedagogical and musical quality
- Assist in the effective organization and categorization of repertoire
