The Minnesota State High School League's Boys Hockey State Tournaments takes center ice this week with games in two enrollment classes.

Maddie Gallant grew up around wrestling. Her father is a former long-time wrestling coach and Maddie was a wrestling scorekeeper at Wadena-Deer Creek when she was in junior high. This season was different, because Maddie became a wrestler for the first time

In the Class AA team competition, Edina claimed its fourth consecutive title with 355 points. The Hornets won one individual event and all three relays on their way to the championship.

Breck/Blake won six individual events and all three relays on the way to its sixth consecutive Class A team title. Alexandria Area placed second and St. Thomas Academy was third.

In a milestone congruent with a celebratory journey to recognize the 50th birthday of Title IX, the Minnesota State High School League made history on Saturday, March 5, 2022, with the first-time state championship crowning of 12 female participants during the Wrestling State Tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Title IX, landmark federal legislation that created equal opportunities for females, was signed into law on June 23, 1972.

The Edina Hornets look strong heading into the Class AA swimming finals. The Hornets posted the fastest time in five events, including all three relays.

Breck/Blake senior Charlie Crosby set two all-time records in the Class A swimming preliminaries on Friday afternoon. Crosby captured the records in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Top-seeded St. Michael-Albertville completed its season-long run of dominance with a 39-20 victory over No. 2 Stillwater in the Class AAA championship match of the Minnesota State High School League’s Wrestling State Tournament on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. For the Knights, it was a fitting conclusion for a season filled with purpose after dropping a state championship opportunity a year ago on its home floor during a pandemic-shortened season.

Minnesota high school wrestling’s best rivalry of late added another chapter to its rich history when top-ranked Simley raced to a 47-21 victory over Kasson-Mantorville in the Class AA championship dual on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the Xcel Energy Center.

St. Paul Highland Park/SPA senior Tanner Zeise leads the Class AA field after the preliminary diving rounds. He is in the hunt for his first state title.
