Burnsville's Holly Manthei

Burnsville's Holly Manthei is one of the first female all-around standouts in Minnesota State High School League history.

When asked to recall some of the best all-around female athletes in Minnesota high school history, some don’t go far enough back in time. If you do, you will no doubt land on Burnsville High School’s Holly Manthei, one of the first multi-sport standouts in Minnesota history.

Many will remember her heroics on the soccer field. She was one of the pioneers in girls soccer in leading the Braves to two state championships in three title-game appearances. She was selected a Parade All-American and committed to play at Notre Dame. But Manthei also played on Burnsville’s girls basketball team that won a championship in 1992, and in the spring of 1993, won a 300-meter hurdles title during the Track and Field State Meet.

At Notre Dame, she was a standout, and in 1995, was a member of the 1995 U.S. Women’s World Cup team that finished third.
