1. What former League Associate Director officiated nearly 2,000 hockey games during a 30-year career?

John Bartz. He began his career as a hockey official in the 1961-62 season and retired in 1992. He retired from League service in 2001 to complete a 43-year career in education.

 

2. What St. Paul Johnson High School graduate is a nationally-known sports artist?

Terrence Fogarty. His expansive coverage includes annual artistry for the cover of the souvenir hockey state tournament programs.

3. Who was the president of the Minnesota State High School League’s Board of Directors during the 1997-98 school year?

St. Paul’s Becky Montgomery

4.  What member school was the first from Greater Minnesota to win a girls hockey championship?

Hibbing. During the 1997 state tournament, the Bluejackets defeated three metro-area schools en route to the championship. Hibbing defeated Roseville 4-3 in the quarterfinals; Blaine 4-2 in the semifinals and Eagan 6-3 in the championship game.

 

5. Which activity had the most registered officials during the 1993-94 school year?

Basketball with 1,665. Football was second with 1,024 and baseball third at 879. During the 1993-94 school year, there were 6,384 registered officials in 13 activities.
