Entering the 2023 Minnesota State High School League’s Girls Hockey State Tournament, Minnetonka was given the No. 1 seed in the Class AA field. Gentry Academy, dubbed with the No. 4 seed had something to say about that. The Stars staged the upset of the tournament with a 2-1 victory in overtime to topple Minnetonka in the Class AA semifinals late Friday night, Feb. 24 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul.

Class A Girls Hockey State Semifinal: Warroad 4, South St. Paul 1

Warroad (25-3-1) will get a chance to defend its Class A Girls Hockey State Tournament championship as the Warriors punched their ticket to the 2023 title game with a 4-1 win over South St. Paul (22-6-1)  in the Tournament’s second semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

An overtime goal by Maddy Kimbrel provided Orono (22-3-4) with its first ticket to the Class A Girls Hockey State Tournament championship game, as the Spartans scored a 4-3 win over Proctor-Hermantown (20-7-2) in the Tournament’s first semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The first day of play at the 2023 Class A Girls Hockey State Tournament ended with an epic defensive battle that finished with South St. Paul (22-5-1) claiming a 1-0 victory in the second overtime session against Fergus Falls (22-5-1) on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Orono (21-3-4) posted the first shutout of the 2023 Class A Girls Hockey State Tournament with a 6-0 victory over Luverne (21-7) in the second game of tourney play on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
