Prior Lake, which has finished second to Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the tournament the past two years, will have a shot of redemption this year. The No. 4 Lakers will meet No. 2 Lakeville North in the championship game slated for 6 p.m. at Stillwater Area High School this Saturday.

This is the second time these two teams have met this season. Lakeville North won the first game 19-12.

Championship Semifinals

Lakeville North needed overtime to get past No. 3 Shakopee 9-8. Senior Austin Winship scored three times for the Panthers and sophomore Blake Piscitiello netted two goals. Five players had one assist apiece for Lakeville North.

Seniors Zane Orchard and Linus Toward accounted for most of Shakopee’s offense. Orchard tallied three goals and one assist and Toward added two goals.

Prior Lake and No. 1 Benilde-St. Margaret’s met in a rematch of the past four championship games in the day’s second semifinal. The Lakers won in 2018 and 2019 and the Red Knights won in 2021 and 2022 (with no tournament being held in 2020 due to Covid 19). These teams also met during the regular season with Benilde-St. Margaret’s winning 15-9.

Junior Jack Tocko paced Prior Lake’s offense with four goals. Junior Max Anderson added two goals and junior Caylon Sheffield had the Lakers’ only two assists.

Senior Robby Hoyt and junior Dylan Parker tallied two goals apiece for Benilde-St. Margaret’s. Senior Carsen Brandt added the lone assist for the Red Knights.

Consolation Semifinals

In the first consolation semifinal, Chisago Lakes posted a 12-7 victory over Cretin-Derham Hall. Senior Maddox Olson led the Wildcats with five goals. Senior Kadin Melin was the second-leading scorer; he finished with three goals and two assists.

Six different Moorhead players struck for one goal apiece as the Spuds defeated Mahtomedi 6-4 in the second game of the day. Junior Jace Blythe tallied three points for Moorhead on one goal and two assists.
