Adapted Softball set for two-day tournament

Posted: Wednesday, June 1, 2022 - 10:47 AM

Member schools participating in Adapted Softball return to a state tournament format for the first time since 2019 when the two-day event resumes June 3-4, 2022 at Chanhassen High School. Adapted Softball, which began League-sanctioned play in 1994, did not have state tournaments in 2020 or 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eight teams have qualified in the CI Division and three will play in the PI Division.

Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville, the state champion in the CI Division in 2019, is the only undefeated team in the tournament field. The Blazing Cats (8-0) earned the top seed of the South Division teams and will open the quarterfinals against South Washington County (4-4), the No. 4 North seed. In the last CI state championship game in 2019, Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville defeated South Washington County in a thriller. In the only matchup between the teams this season, Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville recorded an 18-0 victory on April 27.

Elsewhere in the CI Division field, North Suburban and St. Cloud Area boast 7-1 records. St. Cloud Area’s only loss this season was an 8-6 setback to North Suburban on May 17. In the previous game, North Suburban suffered its only setback of the season in an 11-6 loss to Minnetonka/Wayzata on May 10. In the previous three seasons, North Suburban was the CI state champion in 2016 and St. Cloud Area captured crowns in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

In the PI Division, Anoka-Hennepin and Dakota United received the top seeds. Both receive first-round byes and will play in the semifinals on Saturday. Dakota United (6-0) will face traditional state power Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound Westonka (4-3). Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound Westonka opened the season with four victories, but lost three consecutive games to Anoka-Hennepin to close the regular season.

Anoka-Hennepin (5-2) awaits the winner between Rochester and Osseo, who will play Friday in the only quarterfinal game of the PI Division. Anoka-Hennepin’s two losses this season are to Dakota United.

The PI and CI championship games will be streamed live by School Space Media. To view the stream free of charge, go to www.prepspotlight.tv
