To earn a spot in the semifinals, here is a snapshot of what happened after a long day and evening of quarterfinal play:

Class A

  • No. 2 New Ulm Cathedral 6, No. 7 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 2: Senior shortstop Jake Finstad had two hits, including a triple to right field in the sixth inning, to help power New Ulm Cathedral to an opening victory over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. Senior designated hitter Elliott Schabert had two runs batted in.
  • No. 3 South Ridge 2, No. 6 Hayfield 1: Senior designated hitter Zyere Alexander hit a long fly to the right centerfield gap to drive in ninth-grade catcher Samuel Pretasky to give the Panthers a victory in eight innings over the Vikings.
  • No. 1 Parkers Prairie 4, No. 8 Frazee 1: Senior catcher Shane Hanson had two runs batted in on a hard hit down the left field line and senior center fielder Ben Wagner had two hits to help the Panthers to an opening round victory over Frazee.
  • No. 5 Red Lake County 10, No. 4 Legacy Christian Academy 0: Junior Colin Taggart was 4 for 4 with a run scored and three runs batted in to power Red Lake County past Legacy Christian Academy in the final Class A quarterfinal. The Rebels recorded six consecutive hits in the top of the fifth inning and added more runs to close out the victory. Junior pitcher Will Gieseke recorded seven strikeouts and threw into the seventh inning before reaching his pitch limit.

Class AA

  • No. 2 Perham 2, No. 7 Maple River 0: Sophomore left fielder Carson Ziese and senior second baseman Seth Urbach had RBI singles in the fourth inning to help send Perham to a victory over Maple River. Senior left-handed pitcher Ashton Detloff surrendered just two hits and struck out 10 for the Yellowjackets.
  • No. 3 Pine Island 1, No. 6 Pierz 0: Junior first baseman Landon Lowrie found a fastball to his liking and hit a walk-off RBI single to centerfield in the eighth inning to lift Pine Island to a victory over Pierz. Junior outfielder Mason Jasperson paced the Panthers with two hits. He led off the decisive eighth inning with a double.
  • No. 1 Marshall School, Duluth 11, No. 8 Concordia Academy 4: The top-seeded Hilltoppers scored eight runs with two outs in the third inning to race past Concordia Academy in the third quarterfinal at Dick Putz Field. Sophomore third baseman Alden Marsolek was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two batted in to power the Hilltoppers. He also had five assists on defense. Marshall School built an 8-1 lead after three innings.
  • No. 4 Glencoe-Silver Lake 5, No. 5 Luverne 4: The Panthers loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning and then senior Landon Stifter scored on a wild pitch to send Glencoe-Silver Lake past Luverne in walk-off fashion. Earlier, Stifter had a two-run double. Luverne starting pitcher Carter Sehr recorded 13 strikeouts.

Class AAA

  • No. 7 Hutchinson 5, No. 2 Totino-Grace 3: Hutchinson took advantage of a two-out error in the fifth inning that resulted in two runs and sent the Tigers to a 5-3 victory over Totino-Grace, the defending Class AAA champion, at the Mini Met in Jordan. Earlier, junior right fielder Hudson Lien tied the score at 3-all on an RBI single to right. Senior designated hitter Kellen Westphal had two hits for Totino-Grace.
  • No. 3 Mahtomedi 10, No. 6 Simley 0: Junior right fielder Cody Loida was 3 for 4 with two runs batted in while senior pitcher Wilson Wisely was 2 for 4 with two RBIs of his own to power the Zephyrs past the Spartans. It was Mahtomedi’s third victory over Simley this season. The other two came during the Metro East Conference schedule.
  • No. 1 Mankato East 8, No. 8 Stewartville 2: Top-seeded Mankato East pounded out 11 hits, including five successful bunts in its 8-2 victory over Stewartville. With inclement weather threatening for most of the afternoon, a steady rain fell for about an hour, but didn’t hamper play. Junior center fielder Carson Hart led the way on two hits in three at-bats with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Senior Zachary Bosse added to the highlight reel when he stole home in the third inning.
  • No. 4 Delano 10, No. 5 Grand Rapids 0: Delano hit the ball at a dizzying rate and the result was a five-inning victory over Grand Rapids in the nightcap at the Mini Met in Jordan. Junior Brody Geislinger was a force for the Tigers at the plate and on the mound. He belted a first-inning home run to left field and then threw a three-hit shutout, striking out five to send Delano into a semifinal matchup with top-ranked Mankato East. Junior Carter VanBeusekom got in the hit parade, too, with a run-scoring triple off the left center field wall.

Class AAAA

  • No. 7 Champlin Park 15, No. 2 Andover 2: Champlin Park rapped out 13 hits and junior left fielder Caleb Greer had an RBI triple to power Champlin Park to a convincing victory over Andover in five innings. It avenged a 6-3 loss to Andover on April 15 during the Northwest Suburban Conference schedule. Senior first baseman Kellen Oligmueller, the Rebels’ No. 3 batter in the lineup, was 2 for 4 with four runs batted in.
  • No. 3 Minnetonka 8, No. 6 Moorhead 4: Junior shortstop Garrett Wheeler had two hits, three runs scored and two runs batted in to help power Minnetonka to an opening victory over Moorhead. Minnetonka, which defeated Moorhead 6-4 on April 18, had an early one-run lead in the first inning, but that disappeared when junior Carson Heinsch gave the Spuds a 3-1 lead on a home run to left field.
  • No. 1 Cretin-Derham Hall 7, No. 8 Rosemount 5: Senior first baseman Brady Stoeklen hit a two-run home run to the Home Run Porch in right field at CHS Field in the bottom of the fifth inning that allowed top-ranked Cretin-Derham Hall to sidestep a scare in its quarterfinal victory over Rosemount in the third quarterfinal of the day. An inning earlier, he had a double to right field that was part of a four-run inning. Senior pitcher Logan Matti picked up the victory in relief.
  • No. 4 Farmington 8, No. 5 Edina 2: Senior catcher Marshall Gordon was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and three RBIs to power the Tigers past the Hornets in a game that ended after 11 p.m., because of weather delays earlier in the day.
