Baseball: Prep Championship Series

Baseball championship games will be played in four enrollment classes in the annual Prep Championship Series on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis. The field was completed on Thursday when Class AAAA resumed play for the semifinals at CHS Field in downtown St. Paul.

All top seeds in the four classes have earned berths in the title games, including Hayfield in Class A and Farmington in Class AAAA, the defending champions in their respective classes.

Here is a glance at the Prep Championship Series to prepare you for an exciting end to the baseball season.

Class A

No.1 Hayfield Vikings (24-2) vs. No. 2 Randolph Rockets (24-1), 10 a.m.

Road to Target Field: Hayfield defeated New Ulm Cathedral 5-4 in the quarterfinals; defeated No. 4 Sacred Heart 6-0 in the semifinals. Randolph defeated MACCRAY 10-0 in the quarterfinals; defeated No. 3 New York Mills 4-3 in the semifinals.

Previous championship game appearances: Hayfield 1 (2021 Class A champion); Randolph (first championship game appearance)

Class AA

No. 1 Fairmont Cardinals (26-3) vs. Roseau Rams (19-6), 1 p.m.

Road to Target Field: Fairmont defeated Sibley East 8-3 in the quarterfinals; defeated No. 5 Rochester Lourdes 7-2 in the semifinals. Roseau def. No. 3 Marshall School, Duluth 13-2 in the quarterfinals; defeated St. Agnes 8-1 in the semifinals.

Previous championship game appearances: Fairmont 3 (Single-class runner-up in 1975; Class AA runner-up in 1993; Class AA runner-up in 2014); Roseau (first championship game appearance).

Class AAA

No. 1 Mankato West Scarlets (25-1) vs. No. 2 Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights (23-3), 4 p.m.

Road to Target Field: Mankato West defeated St. Francis 1-0 in the quarterfinals; defeated No. 5 Alexandria Area 3-2 in the semifinals. Benilde-St. Margaret’s defeated Winona 4-1 in the quarterfinals; defeated Grand Rapids 10-8 in the semifinals.

Previous championship game appearances: Mankato West (first championship game appearance); Benilde-St. Margaret’s 1 (Class AAA runner-up in 2019).

Class AAAA

No. 1 Farmington Tigers (23-3) vs. No. 2 Stillwater Area Ponies (22-4), 7 p.m.

Road to Target Field: Farmington defeated Park 3-2 in the quarterfinals; defeated No. 4 Maple Grove 7-5 in the semifinals. Stillwater Area defeated Sartell 6-5 in the quarterfinals; defeated Chanhassen 5-3 in the semifinals.

Previous championship game appearances: Farmington 1 (Class AAAA champion in 2021); Stillwater Area 3 (Class AA champion in 1991; Class AAA runner-up in 2009; Class AAAA champion in 2019).
