Boys Swimming and Diving State Meet: Diving Preliminaries Recap

Chisago Lakes senior Jimmy Nord (Class A) and Rosemount senior Lucas Gerten (Class AA) sit atop the standings after the diving preliminaries. Gerten is defending his title while Nord is in the hunt for his first championship.

Class A

Chisago Lakes’ Jimmy Nord leads the Class A diving field at the end of the preliminaries. Nord placed second to his teammate Storm Opdahl in 2021 and finished in third place last year. He finished the semifinals with a score of 311.35 this year.  

Alexandria Area ninth-grader Kyler Kavanaugh is currently in second place (296.30) and Sauk Rapids-Rice junior Hayden Zabinski follows in third (293.10). Kavanaugh placed 14th last year while Zabinski did not qualify for the 2022 meet.

The Class A diving finals will take place at noon on Saturday, March 4.

Class AA

Defending champion Lucas Gerten heads up the Class AA field after the preliminary diving rounds. His semifinal score was 314.10.

St. Cloud junior Braden Lemke and Prior Lake junior Blake Wallen are in a battle for the second spot. Lemke currently stands at 304.60 and Wallen trails at 301.00. Lemke is looking to improve on last year’s eighth-place showing. Wallen placed ninth in 2022.

The Class AA diving finals will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 4.
