Boys Swimming and Diving State Meet: Diving Preliminaries Recap

Alexandria Area sophomore Kyler Kavanagh (Class A) and Rosemount senior Lucas Gerten (Class AA) sit atop the standings after the diving preliminaries. Gerten is looking for his third consecutive title while Kavanagh is in the hunt for his first championship.

Class A

Alexandria Area’s Kyler Kavanagh leads the Class A diving field at the end of the preliminaries. Kavanagh took runner-up honors in 2023. He finished the semifinals with a score of 323.45 this year.  

Red Wing sophomore Zachary Mikkelson is currently in second place (313.50) and Orono sophomore Bjorn Jaenchen follows in third (263.85). Mikkelson placed 10th last year and Jaenchen was 15th.

The Class A diving finals will take place at noon on Saturday, March 2.

Class AA

Two-time defending champion Lucas Gerten heads up the Class AA field after the preliminary diving rounds. His semifinal score was 357.90.

Eagan senior Owen Kipp and his junior teammate, Stone Larson, follow in second and third place, respectively. Kipp currently stands at 323.10 and Stone trails at 308.60. Kipp is looking to improve on last year’s fourth-place showing. Wallen placed 14th in 2023.

The Class AA diving finals will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 2.
