Boys Volleyball 2025: Eden Prairie and Rogers set for inaugural championship match

They both dropped the first set. They both rallied for a chance at history.
No. 1 seed Eden Prairie and No. 3 seed Rogers will meet in the first Minnesota State High School League Boys Volleyball State Tournament championship match Thursday at Schoenecker Arena on the University of St. Thomas campus in St. Paul following semifinal victories Wednesday.
Rogers (27-1), the runner-up in the last two MN Boys High School Volleyball Association state tournaments, topped No. 2 Eastview, 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-19).
Senior Grant Anderson led the Rogers attack with 20 kills. Ethan Pierson added 13. Trent Welle contributed 40 assists.
Jay Thammavongsa had 17 kills for the Lightning (28-4).
Eden Prairie (26-2) was decisive in the final three sets of its 3-1 victory over No. 4 Spring Lake Park, 19-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-15.
Hardhik Kommalapati led the way with 17 kills as the Eagles hit .302 as a team. Deion Lange had 34 assists.
Eden Prairie and Rogers did not meet in the regular season. The championship is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday.
Eastview and Spring Lake Park will play for third place at 1:30 p.m.
Consolation: St. Paul Central and North High School-North St. Paul swept their consolation semifinal matches against Hopkins and Park Center, respectively, Wednesday. The Minutemen and Polars will meet in Thursday's consolation final at 11 a.m.
