Breck Takes Girls Tennis Class A State Championship Title

After a year with no Girls State Tennis Tournament in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Minnesota State High School League tournament returned looking much like a typical state tournament. Fairmont, MACA/WCA, Rochester Lourdes, Breck School, Litchfield, Pine City, Providence Academy and Crookston each represented their sections at the tournament held Oct. 26 and 27 at Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis. 

Breck won their first title since 2013 with a 7-0 win over Litchfield in the Championship match.. The Mustangs won all seven matches in the dual en route to the title.  

Earlier in the day, Breck, representing Section 4, defeated Fairmont 7-0 in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.  Litchfield, the qualifier from Section 6, earned a spot in the championship match with a 6-1 win over Providence Academy.  

Third Place: 

Third Place honors went to Providence Academy with a 4-3 win over Fairmont.  Fairmont won the first three sets before Providence Academy finished out the match with four consecutive wins to take the third-place trophy.  

Consolation: 

Rochester Lourdes defeated Pine City 5-2 in the Consolation Championship.
