Breck/Blake claims sixth consecutive Class A team title in boys swim and dive

The co-op of Breck/Blake won its sixth consecutive team title with 495.5 points. It was the eighth title overall for Breck/Blake. In addition to the past six years, they also won in 2009 and 2010. Alexandria Area placed second this year with 203 points and St. Thomas Academy was third at 172.
Breck/Blake won six individual events and all three relays on its way to the championship. Senior Charlie Crosby earned his third consecutive title in both the 50 freestyle (19.57) and the 100 backstroke (46.64). His time in the 50 freestyle was also a new all-time state meet record. Crosby set the previous record of 19.72 in Friday’s Class A preliminaries.
Breck/Blake senior James Pan also defended his two 2021 titles. He swam the 200 individual medley in 1:48.12 and the 100 breaststroke in 54.37.
Freshman Henry Webb and junior Charlie Hegeland were the final two individual winners for Breck/Blake. Webb won the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.34 and Egeland set a Class A record of 1:38.00 in the 200 freestyle.
The team from Breck/Blake earned its fifth consecutive championship in the 200 medley relay with a Class A record time of 1:29.28. Crosby, Egeland, Pan and senior Daniel Gabriel were members of that team. The squad of Egeland, junior Jack Schurtz-Ford, Gabriel and Webb defended Breck/Blake’s crown in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.61.
Breck/Blake earned its final points with a Class A record-setting time in the 400 freestyle relay. Crosby, Schurtz-Ford, Webb and Pan completed that race in 3:02.09.
Chisago Lakes senior Storm Opdahl and Simley senior Nico Losinski were also successful in defending their 2021 titles. Opdahl won his third consecutive championship in 1-meter diving (478.15) and Losinski earned his third consecutive title in the 500 freestyle with a Class A record time of 4:34.46.
