Class AA Baseball Quarterfinal Recaps

The 2021 MSHSL State Class AA Baseball Tournament kicked off in St. Cloud on Tuesday, June 15.  Four quarterfinal games were played.  

In the final quarterfinal game of the day, unseeded Belle Plaine defeated the third seed Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 2-0.  ACGC's Josh Kingery and Belle Plaine's Jackson Kruger had 18 and 17 strikeouts respectively.  The State tournament single-game strike-out record is 19 earned in 1963 by Springfield's Mike Davison in a victory over Austin. 

The Class AA number one seed Glencoe-Silver Lake handled St. Agnes in 13-0 in a five-inning game. Glencoe-Silver Lake scored multiple runs in each inning as they cruised to a win. Drew Hedtke picked up the win for the Panthers.   

Aitkin took down the two-seed in Class AA, Albany by a score of 2-0.  In a game that was scoreless through four innings, Logan Olson hit a double which was followed by an RBI hit from Caiden Kjelstrom resulting in the first run of the game. Aitkin added one more run in the sixth inning.  

Plainview-Elgin-Millville, the fifth seeded team defeated fourth seed Wadena-Deer Creek by a score of 3-1 to earn a spot in the Class AA semifinal round. Conner Schumacher went the distance on the mound to pick up the win for Plainview-Elgin-Millville 

Today’s winners will face off in semi-final games to be played tomorrow, Wednesday, June 15.  Glencoe-Silver Lake and Plainview-Elgin-Millville will play at 12:00 p.m. Aitkin and Belle Plaine will follow at 2:30. The winners of the semi-finals will meet at Target Field in the Championship game on Friday.  A third-place game will be played tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
