Class A Boys Hockey Consolation Semifinal: Maple Grove 4, Moorhead 3

In the opening game of the MSHSL Class AA Boys Hockey consolation bracket on Friday, March 10, Maple Grove (23-6-1) charted a 4-3 win over Moorhead (19-11-0) at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.
 
The Crimson were led in the win by senior forward Blake Stennerson’s hat trick.  He opened the game’s scoring at 5:20 of the first period and added another goal later in the first period before scoring the eventual game winner at 12:12 of the second period on the power play.  The Crimson’s Jake Kernan also scored a goal in the second period.
 
Moorhead’s Aaron Reirson had two shorthanded goals in the game, while the Spuds' other goal was added by Caleb Anderson.
 
In the game, Maple Grove outshot Moorhead 25-20 as senior goalie Jack Roach had 17 saves and the win for the Crimson.  On the power play, Maple Grove was 1-of-4 and Moorhead was 0-of-3.
 
Maple Grove will now advance to the consolation finals on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. against the winner of the game between Hill-Murray and Lakeville South today.  The consolation final will be played at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.

Class A Boys Hockey Consolation Semifinal: Hill Murray 4, Lakeville South 3 3OT

Hill-Murray stayed alive in the 2023 MSHSL Class AA Boys Hockey consolation bracket with a marathon 4-3 triple overtime win over Lakeville South on Friday, March 10 in a game played at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.

The Pioneers will next play Maple Grove in the Class AA consolation final at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11 at 3M Arena at Mariucci.

In a classic see-saw battle, Hill-Murray opened the game’s scoring at 15:41 of the first period with a goal by junior forward Ben Miller.  In the second period, Lakeville South tied the game at 14:26 with a goal by senior defenseman John Novak before the Pioneers regained the lead at 2-1 with a tally by junior defender Joseph Luger at 14:54 of the second.  The offensive flurry continued in the second with a goal by Lakeville South senior forward Aston Dahms at 15:27, which tied the game at 2-2.

In the third period, Hill-Murray went up 3-2 with a goal by senior forward Caden Sampair at 4:53.  The Cougars then pushed the game into overtime with a game tying goal at 9:06 by sophomore forward Will Kortan that made it 3-3. After two scoreless overtime periods, Hill-Murray senior Brady Ingebritson ended the game in the third overtime session with his goal.

In the game, Hill-Murray outshot Lakeville South 49-31 as senior goalie Jack Erickson had 28 saves in the win for the Pioneers.  On the power play, Hill-Murray was 0-3 and Lakeville South was 0-of-5.
