Hill-Murray, top-seeded to open the Class AA tournament, bounced back after a semifinal loss to claim the third-place trophy with a 3-2 victory over Prior Lake on Saturday, March 12. 2022 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Senior forward Brendan Bonin scored with 3 minutes, 23 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Pioneers (25-5-1)to the season-ending victory. Prior Lake (19-12-0) had forced overtime when senior defenseman Jackson Anderson scored an unassisted goal late in the second period.
Prior Lake outshot Hill-Murray 12-10 in the third period, but none would settle the outcome.
