Girls Hockey takes center state for 2022 state tournament

Burnsville, the Section 3AA champion, extended its season to one more game following a 4-1 victory Northfield in the Class AA consolation semifinal on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, at TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center in St. Paul.

Senior forward Samantha Bowlby powered the Blaze (23-5-1) with two goals and an assist while senior forward Zoie Dundon contributed a goal and two assists in sending Burnsville into the consolation final on Saturday against the winner of the second semifinal between Brainerd and Maple Grove.

Bowlby’s second goal of the game snapped a 1-all deadlock with six seconds remaining in the second period. Northfield (19-7-3), the Section 1AA champion, had tied the score earlier in the period on a tally by sophomore defender Grace McCoshen. Following Bowlby’s goal that broke the tie, the Blaze followed with an even-strength goal by senior forward Katherine Katzmarek in the third period and an empty-netter from Dudon.

Sophomore goalie Addison Oettinger made 16 saves to secure the victory. Northfield senior goalie Margaret Malecha made 37 saves.
