It has been nearly two decades since Plainview-Elgin-Millville claimed its only Class AAA football championship.

The Bulldogs now have an opportunity to give that trophy some company following a 21-6 victory over Annandale in the Class AAA semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 20 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Senior quarterback Connor McGuire completed 11 of 19 passes for 191 and two touchdowns to fuel the Bulldogs.

Senior defensive back Peyton Schumacher chipped in with three interceptions, including a 23-yard return for a touchdown. He nearly returned his third interception for a touchdown, but was stopped at the two-yard line with 2:27 remaining. He also had a touchdown on the offensive side of the ball. He and McGuire connected on the opening score of the game, a 68-yarder with nine seconds elapsed in the second quarter.

P-E-M (11-2), making its fifth state tournament appearance, will face the winner of the second semifinal between Dassel-Cokato and Esko for the Class AAA crown on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m.

Annandale (9-3) pulled to within 14-6 at the break when senior quarterback Carson Gagnon fired a 6-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Thomas Westman with 25 seconds left in the second quarter.
