Class A Boys Hockey Consolation Semifinal: Alexandria Area 7, Luverne 3

Alexandria Area (15-13-1) scored three unanswered goals to set the stage for a 7-3 victory over Luverne (21-8-1) in the first game of the MSHSL Class A Boys Hockey consolation bracket on Thursday, March 9 at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.

Alexandria Area senior forward Tyler Kludt opened the scoring in the first period with a goal at 2:14 before teammate junior forward Leonard Komplelien scored two more goals in the second to give Alexandria Area a 3-0 lead.  

Luverne broke the shutout in the second period with a goal by junior forward Elliot Domagla before Alexandria Area’s Kasten Muscha, a junior forward scored at 10:45 of the second to make it 4-1.

In the third period, Alexandria Area went on to score three more goals to ice the decision at 7-3.  In the contest, Komplelien had two goals and one assist and Kludt had two goals to pace Alexandria Area.

Senior goalie Elijah Rasmusen was the goalie of record for Alexandria Area with 20 saves, while junior goalie Tyler Arends had 33 saves for Luverne.  On the power play, both teams were 1-of-3 in the game.  Alexandria Area owned a 40-23 lead in shots against Luverne.

Class A Boys Hockey Consolation Semifinal: St Cloud Cathedral 3, Northfield 1

In the second Class A consolation bracket game on Thursday, March 9, St. Cloud Cathedral (17-13) advanced with a 3-1 victory over Northfield (23-7) at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.  The Crusaders will next play in the consolation final against Alexandria Area at Noon on Saturday, March 11 at 3M Arena at Mariucci.

St. Cloud Cathedral sophomore forward John Hirschfield had a hand in all three goals for the Crusaders, which began with his game opening goal at 8:52 of the first period.  He later added a first assist on the power play game winner by junior forward Andrew Dwinnell at 12:08 of the third.  To complete his day, Hirschfield scored an empty net goal at 16:42 of the third to make the final 3-1.

Northfield’s lone goal in the contest was posted by sophomore Brayden Olsen at 12:08 with a power play assist from freshman Bridger Riley.  

St. Cloud Cathedral outshot Northfield by a margin of 32-27 as junior goalie Nick Hansen had 26 saves for the Crusaders.  Keaton Walock posted 29 saves in the loss for Northfield.  On the power play, both teams were 1-of-4.

Alexandria Area and St. Cloud Cathedral will meet in the consolation finals on Saturday, March 11 at 12 p.m.  The game will be played at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.
