Dancers take center stage at Target Center

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. --- The Dance Team State Tournament is scheduled for February 18-19 at Target Center in Minneapolis. Here is a look at the tournament:

Doors Open to the Public – 10:50 a.m.

Welcome/National Anthem/Introduction of Judges – 11:20 a.m.

Qualifying Competition for Class A – 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Class A Finalists Announced – 1:15 p.m.

Qualifying Competition for Class AA and Class AAA – 2 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.

Class AA Finalists Announced – 4:15 p.m.

Class AAA Finalists Announced – 4:30 p.m.

National Anthem/Welcome – 5:25 p.m.

Class A Finals and Award Presentations – 5:30 p.m.

Class AA and Class AAA Finals and Award Presentations – 7:15 p.m.

Team Preview

Jazz: All three Jazz champions return to defend their 2021 titles: Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd in Class A, Sartell (won in Class AA, but will compete in Class AAA this year) and Eastview in Class AAA. If Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd wins this year, it would be the fourth consecutive and overall title for the Shadows. The Sartell Sabres are looking for their second consecutive and overall Jazz title and the Eastview Lightning are in the hunt for their third consecutive title and seventh overall. Sixteen of 18 finalists from 2021 return to compete in the 2022 tournament.

Class A Qualifiers: (Section 1) Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Cannon Falls; (Section 2) St. Cloud Cathedral, PACT Charter School, Holdingford, and Providence Academy; (Section 3) Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd, Yellow Medicine East, and Montevideo; (Section 4) Frazee, Crosby-Ironton, and Minnewaska Area.

Class AA Qualifiers: (Section 1) Faribault, New Prague and Two Rivers; (Section 2) Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Totino-Grace, ad Chisago Lakes; (Section 3) Mound Westonka, Orono, and Holy Family Catholic; (Section 4) Sauk Rapids-Rice, Becker, and Detroit Lakes.

Class AAA Qualifiers: (Section 1) Eastview, Lakeville North, and Lakeville South; (Section 2) Wayzata, Eden Prairie, and Edina; (Section 3) Centennial, Mounds View, and Blaine; (Section 4) Maple Grove, Sartell and Brainerd.

High Kick: All three of the 2021 champions will try to defend their titles in the High Kick category: Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd in Class A, Sartell (won in Class AA, but will compete in Class AAA this year) and Eastview in Class AAA. If Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd wins, it would be the fourth consecutive and overall title for the Shadows. Sartell is seeking its sixth consecutive crown and eighth overall and Eastview is looking for its third consecutive and 14th overall championship. Of the 2021 finalists, 16 return to compete in the High Kick category.

Class A Qualifiers: (Section 1) Lake City, Cannon Falls, and Zumbrota-Mazeppa; (Section 2) St. Cloud Cathedral, New London-Spicer, and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City; (Section 3) Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd, Yellow Medicine East, and Montevideo; (Section 4) Bagley, Crosby-Ironton, and Minnewaska Area.

Class AA Qualifiers: (Section 1) Faribault, Austin, and New Prague; (Section 2) Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Totino-Grace, and Chisago Lakes; (Section 3) Orono, Mound Westonka, and Delano; (Section 4) Sauk Rapids-Rice, Rocori, and Becker.

Class AAA Qualifiers: (Section 1) Eastview, Lakeville North, and Lakeville South; (Section 2) Wayzata, Chaska, and Edina; (Section 3) Blaine, Spring Lake Park, and Mounds View; (Section 4) Brainerd, Sartell, and Maple Grove.
