Girls Basketball State Tournament 2024: Consolation Day 2

Day 2 of consolation-round play took place on Friday, March 15 at the Gangelhoff Center on the Concordia (St. Paul) campus. Here is a look:

Class A

Consolation semifinals

  • Mayer Lutheran 61, Southwest Minnesota Christian 45: Sophomore guard Izabelle Keaveny scored 23 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out three assists and had three steals to power the Crusaders (20-11) pas the Eagles (28-4) at the Gangelhoff Center on the Concordia (St. Paul) campus. Junior guard Madyson Fey led the way for Southwest Minnesota Christian with 16 points.
  • Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 58, Fosston 52: Walker-Hackensack-Akeley used a 14-8 run in the overtime session to post a victory over the Greyhounds in the second Class A consolation semifinal. Junior guard Aubrey Morrison poured in 27 points for the Wolves (25-7) and junior forward Adyson Kurtz had a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard Brynlea Mahlen and sophomore forward Lexi Mahlen had 21 points each for Fosston.

Class AA

Consolation final

  • Rochester Lourdes 45, New London-Spicer 38: New London-Spicer, which opened the season with a 1-3 record, finished on a winning note with a victory over New London-Spicer in the consolation final. Sophomore forward Lauren Hust led a balanced attack with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles (23-10). Ninth-grade guard Aaliyah Williams was close by with 12. Junior forward Ava Carlson and sophomore guard Ayla Caskey had 16 each for the Wildcats (29-4).

Class AAA

Consolation final

  • St. Peter 61, Rock Ridge 34: St. Peter (29-3) used two strong halves of basketball to end the season with a victory over Rock Ridge. Senior guard Rhyan Holmgren led the way with 24 points and eight rebounds. Ninth-grader Kyle Southworth added 12 points. Rock Ridge (27-5), making its state tournament debut as a Iron Range member school, had 21 points and eighth rebounds from junior guard Anna Westby.

Class AAAA

Consolation final

  • Lakeville North 71, Rosemount 60: Lakeville North defeated Rosemount for the second time in three meetings this season to win the consolation final trophy. Senior center Trinity Wilson scored 17 points and junior guard Elayna Boe had 15 to lead the Panthers (26-6). Lakeville North and Rosemount split two games during the South Suburban Conference schedule this season. Ninth-grade guard Amisha Ramlall had 19 points for the Irish (23-8).
