Sixteen lacrosse teams, eight in each gender, will play for two championships this week when the Minnesota State High School League’s Boys and Girls Lacrosse State Tournaments are held over three dates. The tournament is scheduled to begin with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, June 14 with semifinals to follow on Thursday, June 16 and championships on Saturday, June 18.

Stillwater Area High School and Roseville Area High School will serve as the two tournament venues.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights is the defending boys state tournament champion. If the Red Knights defend their title, it will be their fourth championship overall. Previous titles came in 2007, 2010 and 2011. Benilde-St. Margaret’s earned the top seed and will face Moorhead in the quarterfinals.

Prior Lake, the boys runner-up in 2021, returns for another state title opportunity. The Lakers open against South Suburban Conference rival, Farmington, in the quarterfinals.

In the girls’ tournament, Lakeville South is the highest returning qualifier. The Cougars, seeded No. 2 this season, was the runner-up in 2021 and are seeking their first championship. They begin that journey against Elk River/Zimmerman in the quarterfinals.

Rosemount also returns to the girls’ field. The Irish placed third last year and open this season’s state tournament as the No. 3 seed and a quarterfinal against Andover. Rosemount dethroned Prior Lake, the defending state champion, in the Section 6 championship game.
