Melrose Area claims three gold medals in Class A speech

Melrose Area led all Class A schools at the 2022 State Speech Tournament, winning three gold medals. Hawley and Mounds Park Academy followed with two gold medals apiece. This year’s event was held at Eastview High School on Saturday, April 23.  

The 2022 champions are: Drew Pundsack of Melrose Area in Creative Expression; Richard Sylak of Zumbrota-Mazeppa in Discussion; Caden Mrazek and Luke Bates of Staples-Motley in Duo Interpretation; Pernilla Petersen of Hawley in Extemporaneous Reading; Brayden Johnson of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in Extemporaneous Speaking; Akshay Somayajula of Mounds Park Academy in Great Speeches; Nina Nordstrom of Annandale in Humorous Interpretation; Steven Dellin of Hawley in Informative Speaking; Zaara Nayak of Mounds Park Academy in Original Oratory; Gracie Schad of Melrose Area in Serious Interpretation of Drama; Jaden Scholl of Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central in Serious Interpretation of Poetry; Jessica Workman of Dassel-Cokato in Serious Interpretation of Prose; and Ellie Heller of Melrose Area in Storytelling.

There were no returning champions in Class A this year.
