Robots and their student-human counterparts will take to the floor at Gangelhoff Center on the Concordia University campus in St. Paul on Saturday, May 10, for the Minnesota State High School League’s 2025 Robotics State Tournament.

Here are a few key things to know:

  • Schedule: The event begins with qualifying rounds at 8:30 a.m. and continues with additional qualifying rounds at 1:30 p.m. Alliance selection begins at 3:30 p.m. and the playoffs are set for at 4 p.m. The day concludes with an awards ceremony at approximately 5:45 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
  • Returning champions: Minneapolis Southwest and Mound Westonka, both first-time champions in 2024, return in search of more gold. Becker and St. Peter rounded out last year’s winning alliance. Becker, which also won in 2013 and 2022, returns to this year’s field. St. Peter is not making a return appearance.
  • Other teams to watch: Irondale and New London-Spicer, which were part of the runner-up alliance in 2024, also return. Irondale won previously in 2013, 2014 and 2016 and New London-Spicer won previously in 2016. Greenbush-Middle River rounded out last year’s runner-up alliance.
  • 2025 Game: This year’s competition is REEFSCAPESM presented by Haas. In the event, competing alliances are invited to score coral, harvest algae and attach to the barge before time runs out. Alliances earn additional rewards for meeting specific scoring thresholds and for cooperating with their opponents.
