Speech State Tournament scheduled for April 22-23

The state’s top competitors in Speech will gather at Eastview High School in Apple Valley for the 2022 Speech State Tournament this weekend. The Class AA students will compete on Friday, April 22 and the Class A students will follow on Saturday, April 23. Competition will consist of three preliminary rounds in each of the 13 categories and will conclude with a championship round at 3:30 p.m. An awards ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. each day. The event is free and open to the public.

Three champions return in Class AA. Harrison Timm of Moorhead won in Serious Interpretation of Drama last year and will compete in Serious Interpretation of Prose this year. Alice Hovendon of Eagan, who won in Duo Interpretation with Colin Roberts in 2021, returns in the same category. She will partner with Evelyn Gore this year. Lydia Voss of Apple Valley is the final returning champion. She is looking to defend her crown in Original Oratory.

There are no returning champions in Class A.
