Boys Tennis 2025: Top seeds seek championship repeats on final day of team competition

Defending state champions St. Paul Academy and Summit School in Class A and Wayzata in Class AA hope to add to their existing reigns Wednesday as the team portion of the Minnesota State High School League's 2025 Boys Tennis State Tournament crowns champions at two Minneapolis sites.
Both No. 1 seeds advanced with 7-0 victories Tuesday, St. Paul Academy over Minnewaska Area and Wayzata over Sartell.
St. Paul Academy, the top seed in Class A, faces No. 5 Breck in the 8 a.m. semifinals Wednesday at Reed Sweatt Family Tennis Center for a shot at the 4 p.m. championship match. The Spartans hope to become the second team to win four consecutive state championships, joining Rochester (1962-1965).
Class AA No. 1 Wayzata takes on No. 4 Mounds View in a semifinal match at Baseline Tennis Center, also at 8 a.m. The Trojans have won the last two Class AA titles.
Also in Class A:
- Last year's runner-up, Breck overturned a regular-season loss to No. 4 seed Southwest Christian with a 7-0 victory in the Class A quarterfinals.
- No. 2 seed Rock Ridge swept the singles matches in a 5-2 victory over Redwood Valley to reach the semifinals for the fourth consecutive season.
- No. 3 seed Rochester Lourdes will meet Rock Ridge in a 10 a.m. semifinal Wednesday thanks to a 6-1 victory over Foley.
- Southwest Christian and Foley will play in the consolation final at noon Wednesday. Southwest Christian topped Minnewaska Area 4-3 in a consolation semifinal Tuesday afternoon. Foley defeated Redwood Valley, also 4-3.
Also in Class AA:
- Mounds View got past Elk River, 5-2, including a comeback victory at No. 1 singles from sophomore Soren Swenson over Aaron Zoubeck, 6-7 (5), 6-0, 10-6. Swenson is the top seed in the individual singles bracket that begins Thursday.
- No. 2 seed Edina advanced with a competitive 6-1 victory over Eden Prairie, the same score as the teams' regular-season meeting on May 6. Three sets in different matches went to tiebreakers, all won by the Hornets.
- Runner-up the last two years, No. 3 seed Rochester Mayo returned to the semifinals with a 5-2 triumph over Eagan. The Spartans will face Edina at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
- Elk River will meet Eden Prairie in the consolation final at noon Wednesday. The Elks got past Sartell 6-1 and the Eagles beat Eagan 4-3 in the consolation semifinals.
