Girls Hockey takes center state for 2022 state tournament

Maple Grove used a three-goal outburst over a two-period span to record a 3-0 victory over Brainerd/Little Falls in the second Class AA consolation semifinal on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, at TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center.

Junior forward Stella Retrum scored two goals sandwiched around one from sophomore forward Audrey Miekoday to send the Crimson (21-7-2) into the Class A consolation final on Saturday against Burnsville at noon. Sophomore goalie Dani Strom made 12 saves, including five each in the first and third periods, to preserve the shutout.

Following a scoreless first period, the second stanza was looking that way as well until Retrum cashed in on an assist from freshman defender Grace Erickson with just more than five minutes remaining in the second period. During a 78-second span early in the third period, Erickson found Miekoday for an even-strength goal. Retrum capped the scoring shortly after on another even-strength goal.

Brainerd/Little Falls, the Section 8AA champion, finished the season 17-12-0.
