Girls Hockey takes center state for 2022 state tournament

With their semifinal win, Warroad joins the 2021 Class A Champion Proctor/Hermantown in earning a place in the 2022 Class A Girls Hockey State Championship with their 5-0 win over South St. Paul on Friday, February 25, 2022, at the Xcel Energy Center.  

Following a scoreless first period, Warroad junior Tayla Hendrickson scored the game's first goal midway through the second period assisted by Madison Lavergne. Warroad broke open the game with four quick goals in the third period. Lavergne scored first assisted by Kaya Sandy and Lila Lanctot.  Lanctot followed with a hat trick, scoring three goals in less than two minutes. The first goal was assisted by Cahlilah Lindquist, the second by Lavernge and Sandy, and the final one by Sandy and Lavernge.  

Warroad’s goalie, senior Kendra Nordick finished the game with 24 saves and sophomore Molly Jeffrey had 3 while South St. Paul’s junior goalie Delaney Norman had 15 saves.  

The Championship game is tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center. South St. Paul will play Orono will in the third-place game tomorrow at 9 a.m. also at the Xcel Energy Center.
