Boys Hockey State Tournament hits the ice this week

Minneapolis, a co-op of seven high schools from the Minneapolis School District, ended an historic season with two consecutive victories, including a 4-1 win over Monticello in the Class A consolation final at 3M Arena at Mariucci on Saturday, March 12, 2022.

Four players scored for Minneapolis (23-7-1), which was making the first state tournament trip for a Minneapolis City Conference team since 1994. Senior forward Jack Hanson led the way with a goal and two assists. Senior forward Evan Grimm scored the first goal and then a power-play goal from Hanson sent Minneapolis to a 2-0 lead with one period to play.

Goals from senior forward Hayden Soderberg and junior defenseman Drew Pitts pushed the lead to 4-0 with 11 minutes remaining in regulation time.

Monticello finished the season 14-16-1.
