Girls Golf State Tournaments set to tee off at three sites next week

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. --- Twenty-four teams and hundreds of individuals in three classifications will compete in the 2021 Minnesota State High School League’s Girls Golf State Tournaments at three sites on June 15 and 16. Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker is the host site for the Class A tournament; the Class AA tournament is at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, and the Class AAA event is at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.

This will be the first state tournament held after a one-season hiatus when no events were held last spring during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Here is a look at the tournaments:

Schedule

Tuesday, June 15 and Wednesday, June 16

·       The first groups will tee-off at 7:30 a.m., each day.

·       Class A --- Fillmore Central, Section 1A; Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, Section 2A; Adrian/Ellsworth, Section 3A; BOLD, Section 4A; Lac qui Parle Valley, Section 5A; Park Christian, Section 6A; Braham, Section 7A; Badger/Greenbush-Middle River, Section 8A.

·       Class AA --- Lake City, Section 1AA; Fairmont, Section 2AA; Minnewaska Area/BBE, Section 3AA; St. Croix Lutheran, Section 4AA; Providence Academy, Section 5AA; Pequot Lakes, Section 6AA; Hermantown, Section 7AA; Fergus Falls, Section 8AA.

·       Class AAA --- Lakeville North, Section 1AAA; Eden Prairie, Section 2AAA; Eastview, Section 3AAA; Stillwater, Section 4AAA; Maple Grove, Section 5AAA; Edina, Section 6AAA; St. Michael-Albertville, Section 7AAA; Alexandria, Section 8AAA.

Did you know?

·       With this tournament appearance, Edina and Alexandria break a three-way tie for most state tournament trips. This makes 21 appearances for both schools. Following the 2019 event, Red Wing had been part of a three-way tie with Edina and Alexandria with 20 appearances each.

·       Edina has a state-best 12 team championships.

·       What basketball standout, who ranks as one of Minnesota’s all-time best players, captured a golf championship in 1981? Albany’s Kelly Skalicky.
