Girls Hockey State Tournament

Class AA quarterfinals

Two days of quarterfinals in both classes of the Minnesota State High School League’s girls hockey state tournament came to a close late Saturday, March 27 when No. 5 Eastview edged No. 4 Stillwater in the final big-school game at the Xcel Energy Center. Junior defender Nora Stepan scored the game’s only goal with just under two minutes elapsed on a long wrist shot from the blue line that just hugged inside the upper left post.

The victory sends the Lightning (16-4-2) into the Class AA semifinals on Thursday, April 1 against undefeated Andover, the defending big-school champion.

While Tepan supplied the offense, junior goalie Angie Lombard was the backstop in making 28 saves, including 11 in the third period. Freshman forward Josie St. Martin paced the Ponies (19-3-1) with a team-best nine shots on goal. Stillwater finished with 28.
