Girls Lacrosse 2025: Defending champion Lakeville South among quarterfinal winners with fourth-quarter rally

Reigning state champion Lakeville South is the No. 5 seed this year, but the Cougars aren't giving up their title easily, as they showed on the opening day of the Minnesota State High School League's 2025 Girls Lacrosse State Tournament.
Here's a look at what happened in the quarterfinal round Tuesday at Chaska High School:
Stillwater Area 16, Maple Grove 10
Senior Madylyn Richert tallied six goals to lead No. 3 seed Stillwater to the semifinals for the third year in a row. Grace Young added three goals and four assists. Rayma Malmberg also scored three times.
The Ponies (14-2) led 8-5 at halftime and now hope to improve on fourth-place finishes from the last two years.
Ryley Dunn led the Crimson (13-4) with three goals.
Park 18, Elk River/Zimmerman 10
Senior Josephine Leonard scored seven goals on seven shots as the second-seeded Wolfpack stayed undefeated.
Park (17-0) scored nine goals in each half, also getting four and three assists from senior Madison Brinkman.
Senior Lilly Osterman paced the Elks (12-5) with five goals.
Lakeville South 13, Orono 12
Trailing 11-9 in the fourth quarter, senior Ella Mills scored three straight goals to propel defending champion Lakeville South past No. 4 seed Orono and into the semifinals for the fifth straight year.
Classmate Charlotte Fannin assisted on two of those Mills goals, then scored what proved to be a crucial fourth goal of the fourth quarter for the Cougars (14-3).
Mills finished with six goals.
Layla Nick scored a game-high seven for the Spartans (14-3), who led 7-5 at halftime.
Prior Lake 18, Chisago Lakes 5
The top-seeded Lakers set up a rematch of last year's title game against Lakeville South in Thursday's semifinals.
Prior Lake (17-0) raced to a 12-1 halftime lead against Chisago Lakes (14-3).
Eight Lakers found the back of the net, including three goals apiece from seniors Talia Baldzicki, Emerson Mattox and Lauryn Knutson.
