Nordic Skiing: State Meet Advance Release

Two days of competition awaits Nordic Skiers as they descend at Giants Ridge near Biwabik for the Minnesota State High School League’s state meet on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and Thursday, Feb. 16.

The Team Sprint Relay event takes place on Wednesday with eight races, six qualifying runs and two finals, one each for boys and girls.  On Thursday, the excitement ramps up even more with the Classical and Freestyle events.

Here is a look at the qualifying teams:

Girls

Team Sprint

  • Section 1: Eastview/Rosemount; Winona Cotter
  • Section 2: Minneapolis Washburn, Eden Prairie, Minneapolis Southwest
  • Section 3: St. Paul Academy, St. Paul Central, St. Paul Highland Park
  • Section 4: Forest Lake, Stillwater Area, Mounds View
  • Section 5: Coon Rapids, Elk River/Zimmerman, Irondale
  • Section 6: Wayzata, St. Louis Park, Hopkins
  • Section 7: Duluth East, Ely, Cloquet-Esko-Carlton
  • Section 8: Brainerd, Moorhead, Sartell/St. Cloud Cathedral

Briefly

  • Hopkins sophomore Sydney Drevlow, the Pursuit champion in 2022, is not in the field to defend her state title. She and St. Paul Highland Park senior Davis Isom qualified to represent the United States on the Under-18 team that will compete this weekend in the Nordic Nations Cup in Jyvaskyla, Finland. Both qualified through their performances last month at the U.S. Cross Country National Championships  in Houghton, Mich. Six girls and six boys qualified for the Under-18 team.
