Four returning champions captured additional gold medals at the 2024 Class A Speech State Meet.

Perfection-- that's what millions of sports fans witnessed in early April with the University of South Carolina women's basketball team in the NCAA tournament. And the win was especially sweet for hoops fans in Minnesota with Albertville native Tessa Johnson shining on the biggest of stages.

Minnesota’s top competitors in Speech will gather at Shakopee High School for the 2024 Speech State Tournament this weekend.

The Minnesota State High School League presented the Officials Distinguished Service Awards during the Boys Basketball State Tournament on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

Wade Grinde has spent the past 29 years as Spring Grove’s head coach and over that time he guided the Lions to a stellar 566-197 record and two Class 1A state tournament berths.

Robbie Whitney, who coached the boys basketball team at New Life Academy to state tournaments in 2022 and 2023, has been named head coach at St. Francis, where he graduated in 2016.

For more than five decades, Bob Karn has coached baseball at St. Cloud. He graduated from the school in 1959, joined the faculty in 1969 and became head baseball coach in 1971, when he was 29 years old.

Whalen is one of four athletes in the 12-member Hall of Fame Class of 2024 who will be inducted on Sunday, April 14 at the InterContinental Saint Paul Riverfront Hotel.

The White Bear Lake Area School Board voted at its March 4, 2024 meeting to name the fully renovated White Bear Lake Area High School gymnasium “Galvin Court.”
